Central Baptist Church Urban Ministry House Covenant
1. I covenant, as a follower of Jesus, to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with God (Micah 6:8), living to spread hope and the light of Christ (Matthew 5:16), loving the Lord my God with all my heart, mind, soul and strength, and loving my neighbor as myself (Matthew 22:37-39) through commitment to serving the city through outreach ministry at Central Baptist Church.
2. I covenant to volunteer 2-3 hours weekly through one of Central Baptist Church’s outreach ministries. These ministries include: After School Tutoring, children’s ministry, youth ministry, Loaves and Fishes, James Corps, Central Childcare and CCSI Family Literacy Program. Individualized projects or ministries may also be approved. (Matthew 22:37-39)
3. I covenant to live in harmony with my roommates, meeting for a weekly meal or another time of fellowship with housemates (i.e. coffee, dessert, a walk, etc) as scheduled by the House Parents for a time of reflection and encouragement and committing to maintain the basic cleanliness of common and personal areas. (Acts 2:42)
4. I covenant to live as a representative of Christ and Central Baptist Church and therefore will live in a manner that is above reproach: showing kindness, self-control, hospitality, respectable character, patience to teach, gentleness and generosity and abstaining from illegal chemicals, tobacco, and excessive alcohol, as well as engage in Biblically appropriate relationships with both men and women. (1 Timothy 3:2-3)
5. I understand that the role of the houseparent/s is to encourage and serve the housemates in their ministry to the community as well as help do basic maintenance of yard and property, and create cleaning schedule among housemates. I understand that the House Parents are available to mentor me in ministry, address ministry / roommate concerns, and share property concerns. I also understand that the pastors at Central Baptist Church are available to me if I am uncomfortable sharing with my House Parents.
