Ringing the Bells and Hailing the Coming of the King!

This year marks more than twenty-five years for our youth ringing bells for the Salvation Army. Standing in front of stores, outdoors in the cold, donning warm clothing & bright red aprons, singing carols & wishing patrons a “Merry Christmas!” and a “Happy Holidays!”, we not only try to be a model but a blessing to those who quickly scurry by us to warmer places. Whether it be “Rudolph” or “Angels We Have Heard On High!”, we often have store customers join us in singing, appreciating the good spirit of the youth.

Today, I received an e-mail from the Salvation Army reporting to us that our six bell ringing groups took in over $1,000 in the two hours we rang bells. How exciting! What great news! This good news joins the report we received earlier this fall from the Salvation Army that over the past 10 years our youth group has contributed more than $10,000 by bell ringing! And as much as this is exciting news, and certainly news that motivates us to go out, it is news that pales in comparison to the GOOD NEWS of a Savior born into our world to not only take away our sins, but to offer eternal life & a personal relationship with Him starting the very first minute we invite Him into our lives.

Coming together to help children & parents—families. Kids get it, they understand it. That why we never have a difficulty getting them to come out on some of the coldest nights of the year to ring those bells. Whether having grown up at the church or not, the need is clear and so is the response: Ring the bells! Ring the bells! Let the whole world know the part they can play in the lives of others, and that the Savior has come.

On behalf of our youth at Central Baptist Church, Merry Christmas!
