Fiscal Year End Letter

Greetings, Central Family!

I hope you’ll pardon me while I use a little self-deprecating humor to illustrate a point. I took part in the annual Book It 5K Walk/Run for Ramsey County Libraries a couple weeks ago. For the record, I walked the entire 5K, and for over a mile I had Sara on my shoulders. The last time I did any running was several years ago, and back then I could run a 10K in 50 minutes. This time, however, I walked a 5K in 55 minutes. I’ll admit it: I’m out of shape and overweight and just not as fit as I once was. I could really use some strict discipline as it relates to my physical well-being. On a positive note, my spiritual and financial fitness are quite a bit stronger!

1 Corinthians 9 Paul writes about running the race of life in Christ and encourages us to run as to get the prize, a prize of eternal significance. That’s what we’re doing here at Central; we’re running this race God has called us to, a race that has both eternal rewards and eternal implications. We’re coming to the “finish line” of our fiscal year at Central with June 30 coming into view. Please help us finish the fiscal year strong! I shared at the May 20 annual meeting that fiscal year 2017-18 has been a good year for Central in many respects. Financially speaking, General Fund giving is UP over last year and our spending is DOWN. And yet, there is more that needs to be done, and we need your help.

We need $80,000 in general fund giving by June 30 for us to end the year in the black—that’s an average of $20,000 per Sunday over the final four weeks of our fiscal year. Keep in mind that we lost a Sunday back in April due to the blizzard, an offering that wasn’t significantly made up in later weeks, and Memorial Day weekend was quite a bit lighter as well. To meet this need, we want to encourage all who can to double your regular monthly offering in June, or by giving a special one-time gift to the general fund. You can give through the enclosed envelope, online at, or through your offering envelope.

Let me close by saying literally and metaphorically that many of us, including me, are emotionally and physically out of breath, weary and hurting. Yet we press on and put our trust in a God who supplies all our needs. He is our sure foundation. Join us as we pray that He would meet all our needs.

Serving Him!

P.S. Here’s an update on our YES! Campaign goal to raise $125,000 in 2018. Total commitments are nearing $81K with $32K of that in hand. Thanks to all who have given or pledged! If you haven’t yet, please consider a gift/pledge to the YES! Campaign that is over and above your commitments to both the General and Missions Funds. Thank you!
