We are very excited to be making preparations for the launch of Celebrate Recovery at Central on Monday, January 7. Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered, 12 step recovery program for anyone struggling with hurt, pain or addiction of any kind. It is a safe place to find community and freedom from the issues that are controlling our life.
Celebrate Recovery started in 1991 at Saddleback Church in California. From the humble beginnings of 43 people and 4 groups, it is grown today to over 35,000 Celebrate Recovery churches around the world with over 5 million people that have completed part of the Step Study.
Central is in a strong position to be a Celebrate Recovery church. We have a building that is large enough to support multiple groups, we have great need in our community, and we are strategically located at the Crossroads of the Twin Cities, with easy access to the Green Line, the A Line Bus, Snelling Ave, and I-94. There are several Celebrate Recovery churches in the Twin Cities, but they are almost all located in the suburbs, with only 1 Celebrate Recovery church located within 20 miles of Central. As we have reached out to organizations around us, we are excited for a positive response and partnerships that we hope to develop.
Another positive factor of the Celebrate Recovery launch is that it will dovetail with other ministries that we are currently involved with, including our Grace Boutique ministry and our outreach to RS Eden and the VOA, as we continue to serve the needs of our community while working with individuals who are in life transitions. The launch of Celebrate Recovery also comes at a time when the Threshold Ministry at Calvary Church is in the process of moving to Central and partnering with Celebrate Recovery.
So what does Celebrate Recovery mean for Central? Monday nights will be Celebrate Recovery night at Central. Every Monday night, 52 weeks a year. The night will start at 5:30pm with a community meal. Generally about half of the individuals who will attend Celebrate Recovery take part in this meal. At 6:30pm, the group will move into the Sanctuary. There will be a welcome, some time for worship, a devotion/message/testimony, some announcements, and a going through the 12 steps or the 8 principles of Celebrate Recovery. At 7:30pm, the large group will transition into small groups that will meet throughout the church. These groups are gender specific and will be available for a variety of groups, depending on the specific needs of the people who attend. It is important to know that Celebrate Recovery is not just for chemical addiction, but help with all types of hurts.
To learn more about Celebrate Recovery, you are welcome to check out their website at celebraterecovery.com, and feel free to contact the church with any questions you may have. We are always looking for people who would like to volunteer, including greeters, food service, worship, or leading small groups. And of course you are invited to attend, or invite anyone you know who may need Celebrate Recovery in their life.
