"A Summer Youth Missions Event To Ciudad Juarez, Mexico!"
July 17-August 2, 2019
CIUDAD JUAREZ, MEXICO is one of the fastest growing cities in the world. A sprawling city of well over 1.5 million, thousands of people come to Juarez each year for the hope of a new life. The possibilities of new jobs and higher incomes, the joining together of families, and that of entering into a new land, are all reasons people come to Juarez. Juarez is just minutes across the border from El Paso, Texas. The two cities maintain a proximity like that of our own St. Paul- Minneapolis area. It is estimated that the border crossing between Ciudad Juarez and El Paso is one of the most crossed-over borders in the world. The crossing has become so congested that Mexican and U.S. governments have built several bridges to accommodate the amount of traffic.
Over the last ten years, Central Baptist Church, and Adulam Ministries with Laura and Juan Salazar (and Lydia & Levi…and Minnie!), have been planning a cross-cultural ministries experience for individuals who will have completed the 11th grade (as of June 2019) through college age. Following the example of Jesus, the servant to others, we are challenging persons with a desire to serve on a seventeen-day missions experience that will be serving & helping others in our neighbor-to-the-south country, MEXICO! With years of experience, the proven goals of a trip of this nature must be clear.
THE PURPOSE OF THIS "MEXICO TEAM 2019" IS FOUR-FOLD:
MEET A REAL NEED in a missions setting and draw alongside our missionaries to be a real help.
BUILD PARTICIPANTS in their ability to serve together as a team.
PRODUCE PEOPLE WHO HAVE A REAL CONCERN & OPENNESS to the task of world missions.
PROVIDE AN INTRODUCTORY LEVEL MISSIONS ADVENTURE to train participants for other-culture ministry, to expose them to a "bigger" world, and to dispel some of the preconceptions often felt about other cultures.
To help facilitate a ministry that will accomplish both home-church and world-missions goals, our "Mexico Team 2019" will be joining forces with Laura & Juan Salazar, missionaries supported directly by our church (who will meet and work with us daily). In short, our ministry during this seventeen day experience will entail a variety of areas: 1) A Children's Ministry for kids at the local church Templo la Puerta de la Fe, 2) work projects for families, from our church in Juarez or the rehab center, or ministry at their children’s or senior adults homes, and 3) hospital ministry serving and praying and giving witness to families and others outside two different hospitals, and 4) various other ministry opportunities meeting other high school students, attending and participating in worship, and more. This ministry cares for the physical and spiritual needs of people in Juarez, and for the needs of our youth to be exposed to a larger world in need of the Savior's touch. Though the trip will provide a service for others, we have discovered that our teams always gain far more than they could ever give. This will be a life-changing experience:
There will be team requirements for this JULY 17 - AUGUST 2 missions trip. Example of requirements of the trip: application and $50.00 deposit (due by December 31, 2018), team meetings (there will be a minimum of six), research and study, fundraising, support letter, prayer supporters, team covenant, various tasks while on the trip, and team commissioning and reportback with the church congregation.
THE COST OF THIS GREAT SUMMER MISSIONS OPPORTUNITY will be only $600.00. Some think of this as expensive, but we know that this price more than beats comparable trips. The cost covers everything (training, materials, team shirt, complete trip expenses of food, housing & hotels, transportation, etc.). The only other money team members would be responsible for would be personal spending money for souvenirs and snacks.
To apply, students must fill out an application form and return it with your $50.00 deposit (refunded in full if not accepted), along with two personal references. More information is included in your registration packet that they will need to know and pursue once finally accepted on this great trip. This trip is NOT on a "first come-first serve" basis, but MUST BE APPLIED FOR and accepted by Central Baptist Church's Youth & College Ministry Team.
Our team Bible passage is Philippians 2:5-8…
"Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
Who, being God, did not count equality with God something to be grasped,
but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
He humbled Himself and became obedient to death--even death on a cross!"
Mexico Team 2019 had an initial meeting with parents and team members this past Sunday, January 13th immediately following the morning worship service.
