I love this quote from the GOOD DEEDS DAY blog,
“More than 77 million American adults volunteered with an organization last year. That’s a record—and it’s also about 30% of all people over the age of 18 in the entire country.”
When asked WHY THEY VOLUNTEER, 1000’s responded by saying it improves their community or that they want to contribute to a cause they care about. But, the “ultimate answer to the question” was to GIVE BACK because of a number of highly personal & subjective reasons—but especially to show the children or grandchildren the importance of giving back.
Some volunteer to meet others, maybe others of like interest, or to socialize. Still some volunteer to build skills, or because they love animal…or children…or senior adults. Or maybe still for some it aids their ability to combat depression or have more time now that they’re retired. It gives purpose or helps them better understand the world or the people around them. For many it was so that those they served were able to have real needs met or to have a sense that others cared. One couple responded that they volunteer in the National Parks & Monuments to help the underfunded system. Other reasons given: It’s therapeutic, allows time with a daughter or spouse, “I’m disabled but need to feel useful.” Curiosity, opportunity to travel, the ability to share knowledge, to honor someone’s life that has passed, are all wonderful & valid reasons to volunteer & serve.
We too at Central Baptist Church rely on your volunteer spirit. Without YOU we could not have many of the ministries, programs & outreaches that we do. Your time & effort can make a difference in the lives of others, and those who volunteer already at Central Baptist Church not only will attest to this but enjoy your drawing alongside them in ministry.
“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.”
1 Peter 4:10
Where can you serve? Do you love children…youth…adults? Are you handy with a needle & thread? Maybe you’d be willing to offer your services by doing some painting, simple carpentry, hanging a picture, or working in the office answering phones or doing a mailing. We have prayer teams, community outreach, vehicles that need to be watch-cared, light building maintenance, catering help with weddings & showers & funeral or more.
WANT TO FIND OUT MORE? Could you get excited to help out & meet a need? Then look forward to SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 8th, 9:00am. We’re kicking off the fall with a fun event in the sanctuary followed by FOOD & a MINISTRY FAIR in the conversation area surrounding the firepit. It doesn’t matter your age or abilities. Everyone can play a part & make a difference. It’s our way of GIVING BACK & SERVING JESUS.
“So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
Come join the fun! Find where you can meet a need.
See you then!
