2020 Year End Finance Letter

Dear Central Family,

Warm greetings to you all. I hope this letter finds you well and holding up during these unprecedented times. What a year 2020 has been! Our family has faced many ups and downs this year, and I bet you could say the same. I must say, though, that however many hardships we’ve faced, there are many more blessings to be counted. God remains faithful through the good times and the bad.

This fall our family was able to attend church in person for several Sundays in a row. As different as the experience was, it felt really good to be back inside our church building. Oh how I long for the day when we can all worship together again! What I’ve noticed most over this year is that our church staff is still ministering to the needs of those who attend (in person or virtually) and to the needs of our surrounding community. But Central needs our help, and you can be the one to offer that help!

The end of December marks the halfway point of our fiscal year. December is a time when many people consider making special gifts to churches and other ministries. ’Tis the season for giving AND for giving thanks. There may also be tax benefits for certain types of gifts (ie., appreciated stock gifts, charitable IRA rollovers, etc.). Honestly, though, this is a time when you can be a blessing to others when they need it most and may not be expecting it.

Wouldn’t it be just great for our staff to open envelopes containing gifts that would make up our shortfall this year? If you’ve been keeping up with the mid-week email, you’ll notice that our General and Missions Funds are tracking well below where we budgeted them to be at this point in the year. We continue to watch expenses but the General giving still lags behind actual expenses by $18,000. We are thankful for cash reserves in times like this, but Central does really need all the money it budgets to operate the ministry. And a shortfall in the Missions budget means that missionaries we support may not be receiving the full amount we’ve committed to them.

Please prayerfully consider what your gift will be this year-end at Central. You have my thanks and gratitude, truly.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 tells us to “encourage one another and build each other up”. What better encouragement to the staff and Board of Stewards than for you and I to make a generous and special gift at year-end to support the Mission of Central Baptist Church. Please also pray for our Central staff members—they really need our encouragement and support.

Grace and peace,

Kirby Stoll
