NO TRUER WORDS WERE SPOKEN BY DAVID, and resound in many of our hearts as we look forward to regathering at Central Baptist Church--“I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.”

Though David never had a sense of pilgrimage to return to the Holy City of Jerusalem for a time of feast and celebration like so many of those who were scattered abroad, DAVID WRITES PSALM 122 AS A SONG THAT CELEBRANTS COULD SING as they entered the great gates, feeling a supreme joy and thrill like none other in their lives.

David pens the song to be sung like this—

1 “I was glad when they said unto me,
Let us go into the house of the LORD.

2 Our feet shall stand within thy gates,
O Jerusalem.

3 Jerusalem is builded as a city
that is compact together:

4 Whither the tribes go up,
the tribes of the LORD,
unto the testimony of Israel,
to give thanks unto
the name of the LORD.

5 For there are set thrones
of judgment, the thrones of
the house of David.

6 Pray for the peace
of Jerusalem: they shall prosper
that love thee.

7 Peace be within thy walls,
and prosperity within thy palaces.

8 For my brethren
and companions' sakes,
I will now say,
Peace be within thee.

9 Because of
the house of the LORD
our God I will seek thy good.

WHEN MARY AND JOSEPH DISCOVERED JESUS WAS MISSING, and upon finding him they reprimanded and scolded Him. I believe Jesus responded a bit shocked, maybe even a bit amazed, saying, “DID YOU NOT KNOW that I would be in my Father’s house?”

Though it is only a structure of brick and mortar, plaster and lathing, electrical wires, windows and doors, CENTRAL IS OUR GATHERING PLACE to find intimate worship with God, fellowship and mutual encouragement and support with each other, opportunities and places of service and compassion, and a place to build community and reach out to our neighbors. Like Jesus, WE AS TRUE BELIEVER FEEL DRAWN TO IT and none should be surprised by that.

Like David, LET US LOOK FORWARD TO THE DAY in which we will once again “be glad” for entering into the House of the Lord. It is our place of worship and intimate fellowship, where OUR AUDIENCE OF ONE comes to receive our adoration and worship.

Central Baptist Church. Yes, being God’s love alive in the Midway, but even more so DEEPENING our love for Jesus with the hope of OVERFLOWING that love onto our neighbors.

LOVE IN—LOVE OUT. Such a natural response to our Lord’s love for us.

AS WE LOOK FORWARD TO REGATHERING, let us too “be glad” and take great joy in being in our Lord’s House, and do all that we can to deepen and overflow in our God’s love. Amen.
