Update from the Board of Stewards

Greetings Central Family,

I want to thank all of you who took the time to respond to our survey; it was enormously helpful. We had responses from 118 individuals representing households that collectively total 256 people! The information you provided us is so important as we consider plans for regathering. Currently 27% of you have said you do not plan to join in person worship, 26% said you would occasionally, and 46% of you said you would attend often. Be assured that our online Sunday worship is here to stay, even as we discuss coming together again.

Please know that we also read each and every comment and piece of feedback you provided, both about the worship service itself, as well as other suggestions about how we might consider ministry in these ongoing days of church life in the midst of a pandemic.

The Staff met today for an extended three hour meeting, and I was able to join them for much of that time. We discussed many things, including our plans to regather. We are detailing the health and safety protocols and requirements we’ll have in place, the logistics of moving everyone safely in and out of the building, and our communication plan to all of you about these details leading up to our regathering. As we previously shared, in person worship services were going to resume on Sunday July 12th. However, we have determined that, for the following reasons, we need to postpone our regathering until Sunday August 2:

● Our upcoming transition as we onboard our Intentional Interim Pastor.

● The increase in Covid-19 cases around the country, including here in Minnesota.

● Concerns about increased exposure for our Staff and volunteers involved with Sunday Worship, particularly ushers who will be key in ensuring folks can safely move into and out of the sanctuary and building.

Please continue to pray for the Staff and Board as we make these important decisions.

We continue to move through finalizing our Intentional Interim Pastor candidate; our Covid-19 world has impacted this transition as well. Please pray that God would lead and guide this process and help navigate the details. We will share an announcement as soon as we are able!

Today marks one year since I became Chair of the Board of Stewards. To say this year has been difficult would be an enormous understatement; our church has faced incredible challenges in the past 12 months. I am thankful for my fellow Board members and for our Staff, with whom I am privileged to partner in service. I am thankful for the prayers, support, and fellowship of this wonderful congregation as we seek to serve the Lord and His Kingdom together through our work at Central. And I am deeply grateful to the Lord; He is faithful and He is worthy, and I have seen Him move during the past year in ways that have astounded me.

“Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.

Worship the Lord with gladness;

come before him with joyful songs.

Know that the Lord is God.

It is he who made us, and we are his people,

the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving

and his courts with praise;

give thanks to him and praise his name.

For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;

his faithfulness continues through all generations.”

-Psalm 100

To God be the glory!

Yours In Christ,

Catherine Westby
