Friday Devotion

God is never silent. Look for Him in the pandemic, in the stillness, in the storms and in the mundane moments.

How fast the world has changed because of this crazy little thing we call COVID-19!

At times it can be frightening, can’t it? The United States and the world alike went from being globally connected to closed in just a few weeks. The Pandemic's toll on life and normalcy keeps mounting. Every time I look at my news feed, I prayerfully hope situations are getting better not worse around the world.

A new, awkward, uncomfortable and surreal normal took over in just a few weeks. A few weeks that has now turned to months. The practice of social distancing has become our standard operation. Before the Pandemic if someone said, "She always distanced herself socially," we might tend to think she was struggling psychologically. Now it's a physical practice that is healthy and expected. It hits us emotionally, physically...And if the virus wasn't depressing enough, the practice of social distancing has affected many businesses in a very negative way, except of course if you make paper goods or sanitizers. Toilet paper still so oddly desirable!

Some people may be asking "Where is God?" I understand that question. I have certainly thought it and certain I’ve asked it! However, looking at God's Word, He is always with us - that means He is with each sick person, in everyone's struggles, in every fearful situation and so on in this crisis and with us when feeling alone, bored and forgotten.

O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar. You scrutinize my path and my lying down, and are intimately acquainted with all my ways. Even before there is a word on my tongue, behold, O LORD, You know it all. You have enclosed me behind and before, and laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is too high, I cannot attain to it. Psalm 139:1-6

When you want to pull your hair out because life seems out of control- don't! God is there wanting to get you through the chaos (Psalm 18:31-36). When you are not sure what to do, and you need understanding, wisdom and strength, turn to God; He is always there (Isaiah 40:27-31).

When there is trouble and darkness seems all around, don't be afraid. The light of His presence is there. Go to Him in prayer. Trust Him. He is there! He wants to give you comfort and wisdom to get you through the Pandemic (Proverbs 3:5-8; 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, James 1:5).

What I have seen in my life is, God is always with me, He is never silent. At times it can become hard to hear Him because of the confusion, chaos, and panic around and within me. Can you relate? When God seems silent to us, what we need to do is calm ourselves still before our God in prayer and listen to His voice through His Word. He is there, whether we feel it or not. We need to also remind ourselves, He is our strength and refuge, and His constant presence will get us through any trouble, any situation, and certainly though any pandemic.

In His never failing presence and grace, Alicia
