Update on Sunday Gatherings

The staff and board of Central have had several discussions about the current COVID situation in the area and the new anticipated restrictions that will be put in place by the government. Because of the reality of an accelerating increase in cases, the very real strains on the hospital system, and our desire to be a responsible neighbor committed to keeping our members and neighbors safe, we have decided that this Sunday, November 22, will be the last in person gathering for Sunday morning worship for the year 2020.

We do not make this decision lightly. We have tried to balance the importance of gathering for worship with the reality of what is happening around us in the community and across the country. This is a crucial time in the COVID outbreak and we feel it is important that Central does its part to help mitigate spread. While we are very thankful for everyone who have taken the safety protocols seriously while in person on Sunday, we realize that those measures can only do so much when the spread is at current levels. We have had multiple staff members need to quarantine due to exposures and we anticipate that to continue in the next month, making full operations of the church and Sunday mornings a constant moving target. We ask that you continue to pray for all of our frontline care workers during this time.

We are hopeful and pray that this current suspension of in person worship services will be shorter than what we did in the spring and summer. When the COVID numbers in the community and state return the levels of a month ago, we are confident that our current protocols in place will allow us to gather again, hopefully in early January. We are also aware of good news in regards to vaccine development and are making plans for expanded ministry starting in the spring. But in the meantime, we feel a return to fully virtual Sundays is the best move.

We also want to make you aware of some changes we will make to Sundays in the month of December.

-Pastor Terri will be developing a daily devotion for the Advent season. This devotion will be included in the Wednesday email and will cover the week starting on Sunday. We will also include links on the church website. Look for week #1 next Wednesday.

-We will be setting up an online Sunday school time on Zoom that will be based on the Advent devotion. This Sunday school will be from 9:30-10:15am on November 29, December 6, December 13 and December 20. Check the email next week for the Zoom link.

-We will be having some special features in our worship services during the Advent season. Stay tuned for those.

-Our Zoom fellowship time following the worship service will continue as it has for the past several months. It will meet immediately following the worship service.
